Our Story
For years, I wanted to offer affordable lessons in our home town of Belfast and throughout Northern Ireland,  a chance I did not have as a kid and many of us wished we did.  I have been so fortunate to have music in my life both playing and touring around Ireland and around the world, playing and writing new music, while recording new songs on guitar, banjo and mandolin and even performing them live on radio stations and large outdoor venues.  Returning home, so much has changed about our Belfast and ourselves at Belfast Dreams School of Music want to be a part of this music future by giving both adults and children the same chance to succeed at music, even if they are total beginners no matter your age or ability.
This school was created to help anyone who wants to make music a hobby or career or something in between, it's your choice.  We offer music lessons in Guitar (six and twelve string), Mandolin and Mandola, Singing, Banjo (four and five string) and Ukulele as well as theory centrally location within the metro area, accessible from Bangor to Lisburn to Glengormley, and many students come from as far as Portaferry and Newry for their lessons.   Wherever you are with your music, you are welcome at Belfast Dreams School of Music either face-to-face or online.  We are here to help you, you are our star!

Why is Qualified and Experienced Teaching Instruction important?

Our teachers all have degrees in music and teaching - several with advanced degrees – and their extensive experience with music education will ensure that you and your family receive the best music education in a caring, enthusiastic and supportive environment.  The teacher who has years of teaching experience will understand the need to break down the information to help anyone understand music they may not see every day.  Having taught every school level from primary to third level, including post schooling, Belfast Dreams School of Music has been organised around the learning and provides this unique personal, unique service to our students.  How?  By taking all the years of grind we did growing up, and not sacrificing hours on your part to learn!  View our testimonials and judge for yourselves by the comments of our current and past students.

'But all I want to do is learn how to play'

I was never sure I wanted to make this more than a hobby, only playing to share with my mates in secondary.  I was not very good when starting out and my fingers actually hurt, for days and I wondered why I was trying to think I could do this.  So, we know everyone is not going to play in bands or in the Albert Hall.  But, we are here to help with the wee matters like fingers, elbows, shoulders and voices that do not always do what you are wanting (actually, we have a solution for all of this, really).  Being teachers as well as tutors, we give students like yourself one-to-one teaching advice that is easy to follow and do between lessons, nothing fancy, nothing too advanced, just made for yourself where you want to be.

'I have some experience but I'm not sure where to go next?'

When I was getting better, I thought 'where do I go next'?  There were so many songs out in the 70s and I wanted to play them all and, I liked more than one style which could make it difficult.  You can get help for this when improving on the basics you already know and to add little ideas like phrasing or string movement or additional chords.  If you are a singer, the improvement comes from knowing your voice and the three key areas of singing well, beyond just enjoyment.  We often call this crafting a song.  No matter whether its an instrument or your voice, we can help you set these new intermediate goals and reach them by breaking down the play one step at a time, no need for extra worry or tension or being overwhelmed.  The lessons are a bit harder, but the learning is amasing and you can change styles if and when you want.  We have the experience in all genres played on daily music stations and our goal is always about you being your best.

'I am more advanced, how can you help me?'

In addition, our advanced online technology is a growing part of the lessons at Belfast Dreams School of Music. Our music school uses keyboards, amps, stereos, multi tracks, an extensive musical library, and a  recording technology software station for your music purpose to enhance the music you play.  You are always welcome to video your lessons to use as practise and guides during the week and we will always provide your advanced music materials and advice for free.  Advanced students will get benefits from teachers who have been there to understand music, instruments and vocals, have been on stage and can show you how to take the next step to your career in music.

Can you help those who need a bit of extra help with finances?

There should be no barrier to music lessons.  Our merchandise sales go directly to the cost of music lessons to those who desperately need it.  If you are in need yourself or have a child which needs a bit of help, please contact the office before beginning your lessons to let us know.
